Club Overview
The North Carolina Koi & Watergarden Society was formed in May of 2001 to promote fellowship and to create a rich and diverse community among people enthusiastic about koi keeping and water gardening. First and foremost, NCKWS is a social club centered on a common interest. We meet monthly, usually on the second Saturday of the month at a member’s home or business pond for socializing, fellowship and to enjoy good food, drink and company. The NCKWS is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina and draws its members from the Greater Triangle Area and surrounding cities.
The NCKWS sponsors several lectures, exhibitions and competitions for members and the community that we serve. These include training on koi keeping and koi health, pond water quality, filtration systems and strategies, the care and keeping of water and marginal plants, landscaping and aesthetic balance and other topics of interest to our members. The NCKWS has ongoing relationships with several veterinarians and the College of Veterinarian Science at North Carolina State University. Additionally, the club holds several fund raisers that provide members with discount fish foods and koi.
Although several NCKWS members participate in koi shows, many members do not compete in shows. NCKWS member ponds vary in size from 200 gallons to 50,000 gallons. Some members do not yet have ponds or are just considering a water feature for their home. Some members prefer formal ponds, while others like a natural setting with waterfalls. Some members are avid and talented gardeners and have manicured and immaculate gardens with water features, while others have ponds amidst rocks and boulders. Many members enjoy water plants while others focus strictly on environments for their wet pets. Variety is encouraged and promoted.
NCKWS is open to all interested parties, whether or not they live in or near the Greater Triangle Area of North Carolina. The society draws members from all over North Carolina and, as a member club of the American Koi Clubs Association, has affiliate clubs throughout the United States.

Our Vision
Members of the North Carolina Koi & Watergarden Society have a clear vision for the society's future. We envision an abundant future filled with the rich, rewarding and memorable experiences that only a diverse group of active and enthusiastic people can offer. We seek to attract all those who want to create, maintain and live near the lush, yet delicate, ecosystems made possible by water gardening and the keeping of ornamental fish. Upon this common interest in beauty we see a future filled with new and lasting friendships and fellowship, not to mention the good food and drink shared at our monthly socials.
We hope that by exposing people to a variety of different styles of water gardens and koi habitats that our members and guests will be inspired to embrace this beauty on a personal level and to get involved. As a society we aspire to offer education, advice and support to members and guests desiring to learn more about this fun hobby. For those new to the hobby, the experienced in our midsts provide cautions and share approaches to avoid. For the avid koi lover or gardener that wants the thrill of competition and the opportunity to share, the society provides venues for shows and brings interested people in to view, share and applaud the successful efforts of members in maintaining high quality water gardens. For our affiliate clubs and societies located around the globe NCKWS provides a center for exchanging ideas and a means by which people with common interests can meet and become acquainted.
The NCKWS invites you to get involved and help us achieve this vision and in so doing enrich our society and our world.
